The New Season- 2011

by David Appleton on June 21st, 2011

So, here it is June 2011 and there is nothing to do. Oh, I guess I am in a dream. Oh well, down at the farm at least the seed is in the ground and things are beginning to germinate. After about one quarter of an inch of moisture yesterday and the forecast of sunny and dry for today, things ought to really pop this week and I am confident we'll have a bunch of stuff later in the summer.

Yes, we did change our goals a bit for the season at hand (produce available for everyone at the farm, irregardless of each person's ability to pay, no harvesting or selling, etc.), but growing things at the farm is pretty much the same as it's always been for us. We're confident in our ability to grow what we can grow given our elevation and short growing season, have seen our dirt only get more fertile and better and are generally pleased the the infrastructure is all in place so that we can focus on just growing as much as possible.

Yes, with farming there is enough to worry about as it is. We don't need any more models or ideas or stress-- we just need to till the dirt, get the seed in the ground, thin and weed, and be there when as many people as possible harvest what they can and put the good food to good use.
